New syringe system for easier and more hygienic application

Klosterfrau Healthcare Group, its subsidiary Farco-Pharma and Sanner Group jointly developed a new polypropylene (PP)-based syringe system to improve adherence and contribute to sustainability.

 

Limitation of traditional syringes

 

Typically, syringes and connecting piece to the catheter are removed from sterile packaging. This results in handling difficulties, especially for patients with motor impairments.

 

The adapter is not to be touched and is firmly attached to the syringe. The syringe and adapter are then connected to the catheter access. During this process, contamination had to be avoided under all circumstances.

 

Innovative design for easier and cleaner application


The new system, which was launched this year, attaches the syringe directly to the catheter. Not only allows easier and more hygienic application, the new design also saves the plastic connector and is therefore more sustainable.

Sanner’s in-house product design department developed two proposals and created prototypes using 3D printing. After several application tests, Klosterfrau chose the concept with the advantage of a round cone that takes over the function of the adapter.


Rapid implementation


With the injection point does not set at the thickest spot, that is not on the round cone, but at a more suitable location, Sanner ensures an absolutely secure sealing fit on the catheter access.

 

Beatrix Höber, account manager at Sanner, explained that the choice is supported by compliance with the tightest tolerances in manufacturing.

 

In addition, the company implement the new design in fast pace, which it spent less than nine months on the path from development of concept to the qualification of the 16-cavity mold.

 

“With the construction of the new plant at our headquarters in Bensheim, we will have even better possibilities for the rapid implementation of new devices as of fall 2024,” added Höber.
