First in South Korea: JaeKwang produces CPP flat films in a 5-layer process

Nov 20, 2023

JaeKwang, a South-Korea-based packaging manufacturer, is now the first company in South Korea to produce CPP flat films in a 5-layer process.

Marking a milestone for the company and South Korea in last autumn, JaeKwang installed the first 5 layer CPP film line from Reifenhäuser, which is also the first line of its kind ever in the country.

With Reifenhäuser’s core competence in hot part extrusion equipment, the CPP machine has been tailored to meet the optimum requirements of the end product. It also delivers high quality standard and a strong production output of the line of 1300kg/hour.

Kang, Owner and CEO of JaeKwang, explained that the line enabled the company to achieve an enormously high throughput while maintaining the same high quality and functionality. Thus, offering the company with decisive competitive advantage in the market.

Another feature also technologically convinced the South-Korean company. Coextrusion Adapter Pro – a feedblock system from Reifenhäuser, enables multilayer production in extremely low tolerances and adjustment of the layer distribution during ongoing production.

In addition, JaeKwang has commissioned Reifenhäuser to install a second line.

Next step to creative and functional packaging

Packaging designs are required to be creative and elaborative in terms of haptics and appearance in South Korea. The demand on functionality has been rising as well.

Currently, a so-called Easy Tear function is particularly in demand for pouches. With this design function, any type of pouch can be opened quickly, safely and cleanly with an integrated tear strip.

This user-friendly solution can be realized by a line with a stretching unit (MDO), which JaeKwang will now install in the next step. This plant technology will also be the first of its kind in South Korea.

“Reifenhäuser's know-how and technologies help us to grow steadily in the market and to create clear added value for consumers with our products,” added Kang.
