Victrex launches new pharmaceutical contact PEEK for drug delivery application

Oct 27, 2023

Victrex plc launched VICTREX PC101, a new product grade developed exclusively for drug delivery and pharmaceutical contact applications.

VICTREX PC101 is a PEEK-based material, available in granules and film. PEEK materials meet high levels of physical and chemical performance, ideal for applications requiring sterilization, retention of dimensional stability, and chemical and electrical and temperature resistance.

VICTREX PC101 is available in both granules and film.

PEEK also meets high levels of mechanical performance, suited for high strength and miniature parts, wear, abrasion and fatigue exposure. It is also versatile for thermoplastic processing through molding processes, milling or additive manufacturing.

VICTREX PC101 is suited to non-implantable pharmaceutical contact and drug delivery applications for less than 24-hour tissue contact duration, either for production line equipment or primary packaging and end delivery devices.

The new grade meets the highest level of industry biocompatibility certification for USP Class VII and also meets industry standards such as USP 661 for use in non-implantable pharmaceutical contact applications.

Ryan Elmore, Core Business Director, Medical at Victrex explained that recent advances in drug delivery devices such as miniaturization and increased drug viscosity called for designers to be able to access additional materials to meet the increasing manufacturing and performance challenges. Victrex PC101 is perfectly placed to support them.
